Management Team

Saran Kanagaraj, CEO, has a 25-year track record in the global financial services industry including New York, London, Hong Kong, Mumbai and the Middle-East. Most recently, he was the CIO of Corporate, Investment Banking and Markets division of HSBC in USA. He currently serves on the boards of private companies.

Mr. Kanagaraj graduated in engineering from the Madras University, India and was trained in management disciplines in Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, India and Insead, Fontainebleau, France.

Mary Ann DiAnna, VP Business Development, brings over 20 years of Capital Markets sales and trading experience to Variman. Prior positions include corporate and hedge fund advisory services at firms such as Goldman Sachs, Lehman Brothers and Chemical Bank. Before joining Variman, Mary Ann played an integral role on the corporate sales/trading team at Sovereign Bank in Philadelphia.

Mary graduated from Rutgers University with a double major in Economics and French.

R. Venkata Subramani, Director of Finance, is a professional accountant having 25 years of extensive expertise on finance, financial markets, and taxation. Most recently he set up a 300-person software development listed company in Chennai, India that specialized in development of software for financial applications including income tax, payroll, and asset accounting. Recognized as the brain behind the creation of the award winning website for the Income Tax Department, Govt. of India, he has designed, developed, and implemented several software projects for the Income Tax Department, Govt. of India.

Mr. Subramani is a Chartered and Cost Accountant.

Advisors

Kishore Bopardikar is Founder and President of Calypso, since its inception. Prior to founding Calypso, Mr. Bopardikar worked at Infinity Financial Technology, where his roles included Chief Technology Officer and Director of Software Engineering and prior to that at Daisy Systems developing software tools for chip designers.

Mr. Bopardikar has a Masters degree in Computer Science from University of South Florida, Tampa.

Shawn Banerji is a member both the Information Officers and Business Services Practices within Russell Reynolds' Global Technology Sector. He has extensive experience recruiting Chief Information and Technology Officers for alternative/asset management firms, investment banks, publishing, media, distribution and service companies. Shawn also recruits senior managers for operations, sales, marketing and general management roles in the business process outsourcing marketplace with particular emphasis on companies that leverage a global resourcing model. Shawn has nine years of executive recruiting experience and joined Russell Reynolds Associates in 1999. Prior to his executive search career, Shawn was with Ogilvy & Mather, the advertising agency.

Shawn is a member of the Financial Services Technology Consortium. He received his B.A. from the University of Richmond and his M.A. from the University of Westminster, London.

Sanjiv Bhasin is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Rabo India Finance, the Indian subsidiary of Rabobank Nederland. He joined Rabo India in June 2004. Before joining Rabo India Finance, Sanjiv Bhasin was the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of HSBC India. He started his career with HSBC in 1979 and over the years worked in various capacities mainly in the Corporate Banking, Investment Banking and Credit & Risk Management divisions in India. Sanjiv was seconded to London in the Investment Bank in 1988, from where he returned to head HSBC's Corporate Banking for Western India in 1990. He was made the head of the HSBC Group's Investment Bank in India and then given additional charge of Credit & Risk Management and Corporate & Institutional Banking. He became the Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Mauritius in 1999. After a three and a half year stint in Mauritius, Sanjiv was appointed the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of HSBC India.

Sanjiv is an MBA in Finance from XLRI Jamshedpur and holds a B.Com (Hons) degree from Sriram College of Commerce, New Delhi.

Sanjay Bharwani is the Founder of Risk Advisors Inc., a consultancy specializing in valuing illiquid hard-to-value securities for hedge funds and financial institutions. Prior to this, Sanjay was the Chief Information Officer and member of the management team at M. Safra & Co., a multi-strategy fund, where he implemented a cross-asset front to back trade processing and risk system using the Calypso framework. Earlier in his career, he served as Practice Manager at Exis Consulting, a boutique capital markets consultancy for emerging markets sovereign debt trading. At Reval, a financial technology startup that provides derivative hedging and risk management products to banks and Fortune 500 companies, Sanjay was an early member of the team and managed the design and development of their accounting application and consulting offering.

Sanjay has an MBA in Finance and Management from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting from the H.R. College of Commerce and Economics at the University of Mumbai.
